For The Ultimate In Patio Cooking, Get A Built In Gas Grill

Last year we redesigned our backyard and added an expanded patio. I let my wife pick out everything for the project as long as I got a built in gas grill out of the deal. This turned out to be a pretty expensive deal for me, but it was worth it.

And who knew how expensive trees and bushes could be? I thought the ones we had were fine, but the next thing you know a whole landscaping army was here tearing out perfectly good plants. Then a box truck showed up from the local nursery with our million dollar new landscaping.

Oh well, like I said, it was worth it. I am reminded of that every time I get to cook on my beautiful built in gas grill. For years I had a nice free standing grill and it did a great job of cooking, but there was never enough places to put stuff down while you were cooking. You get out there with a couple of platters, tongs, knives, a skewers and next thing you know there is not even room left to set down a beer.

When we did the new patio, we had the masons built a stone half wall around one side. It kind of encloses one side of the patio to make it feel a little more secluded and cozy. It also gave us a surface to put the built in gas grill on. Now I have a good six feet of space on each side of the grill to spread out while I cook. It makes everything easier.

The other thing that is really great about the built in gas grill setup is that when you are not using it, you do not have this big monster grill just parked there on the patio.

Our old grill always looked out of place sitting in the corner and my wife was constantly pushing it out of the way or putting potted plants in front of it. Half the time it took me longer to dig the thing out and get it uncovered then it did to cook the steaks.

Now with the built in gas grill, I always know where to find it and it looks great. It cost a bit to get it installed, but it also adds a lot of value to the house if we ever go to sell it. Even better than this is that I never have to go down to the hardware store for a propane cylinder.

Since the grill is stationary I had it plumbed into the big propane tank for the heating system. Talk about convenient. It just has a valve under the grill that you open and you have as much propane as you need. I still remember the time I ran out of gas during a fourth of July cookout with the old grill. Luckily I will never have to go through that again.
