Have Fun with a Portable Charcoal Grill
When I am cooking at home, I prefer to use the biggest propane gas grill known to man, but there are other times when you want to take a grill with you and that is when you need a
portable charcoal grill.
My
big grill takes up half of the patio and I would need a trailer to bring it along, so when we pack up to go to the beach or to go tailgating, the little
portable charcoal grill comes along for the ride.
The truth of the matter is that the
little grill does a great job. I sometimes forget how good a burger can be cooked over a charcoal fire when I have not had one in a while. If we go camping off to the woods or down to the beach, that is the first thing I load in the truck every time.
I can set it up right on the tailgate and cook from there which is convenient. We save a lot of money while on vacation by
cooking for ourselves instead of eating out, which is important especially when you have two teenagers who eat like horses.
Charcoal takes a little more time to get the coals burning right and everything heated up evenly, but the flavor is well worth it. Plus that way you do not have to worry about storing or transporting a propane tank.
You can go anywhere and pick up charcoal so that is never a problem. The other nice thing is that a
portable charcoal grill is much less expensive than a comparable propane one, so you do not end up with a bunch of money tied up in something that you only use on occasion.
Not that the price would not be worth it though. Because I tell you, when I
fire up that grill at the tailgate and everyone is piling around waiting for the burgers and steaks to come off and kids are lining up for hotdogs, I feel like a million bucks. And it is worth it just seeing how happy that good food makes everybody.
A portable charcoal grill does not have to be just for trips though. I have a buddy who is single and lives in a small apartment. He does not have room for
a big grill but he has a little one out on the balcony that does a great job.
I know his dates are always impressed when he has them over for fresh grilled chicken and shrimp. And of course when the boys come over for the game, there are burgers and dogs cooking out there all day long. His place is
smaller than everyone else’s, but his TV is the biggest so that is where we end up.
